On Sunday Castletown won their second game of the weekend and are now joint top of the Standard Bank Cain League with Cronkbourne.

The southern bowlers did very well to dismiss Crosby for 73. Jack Rowlands scored an excellent 32, but none of the other batsmen reached double figures.

Richard Jackson was the chief wicket taker with 3 -14 while Gareth Morris and Seb Aycock each claimed two victims.

Needing 74 for victory, Wicus Wessels and Morris opened for the Town and launched a savage attack on the home bowling. Joe Rothwell had Morris caught by Rowlands for 13 and Harry Rothwell picked up another wicket, but it was too late. Skipper Wessels saw his side home with a fine 49 not out and Castletown left Marown happy with all the points.

Ramsey maintained their title challenge with a good win at Tromode. They batted first against Valkyres and made 102 for 9 from their 20 overs. Several batsmen got into double figures, but were unable to get much further.

Their main problem was Shahzeb Raja who mesmerised Ramsey with four wickets for only seven runs. The top scorers were Eddie Cleator and Brian Arnold with 14 each.

Valkyres needed to score at just over five an over for victory. They came up against a determined Ramsey attack, aided by some very sharp fielding and catching. Ollie Webster in particular took an outstanding catch on the boundary.

Jamie Moffatt was the main destroyer. He ripped the heart out of the Valkyres order with 4 -21 while James Arneil returned 2 -8. The Tromode team were dismissed for 71 after 17 overs and so lost by 31 runs.

This coming weekend will be huge for Ramsey. On Saturday they play St John’s in the Premiership and, if they win that game, they will go top.

On Sunday they are at Tromode to meet Cronkbourne. Another victory will see them move to number one in the Cain. Northern fans had better fasten their seatbelts!
