THE Isle of Man will play host to a star-studded ‘Old England XI’ in August, an event not to be missed by any Manx cricket fans.
The squad will be skippered by John Lever with Jim Parks as manager. Amongst the famous names in the side are Derek Randall, Clive Radley, Martin and Darren Bicknell, Geoff Humpage, Warren Hegg, Peter Martin and Jim Love.
The team will play an island select XI at Tromode on Friday, August 19 which will be followed by a gala dinner. The next day the internationals will relax with a golf match and in the evening a barbeque is planned. More details will be available shortly.
l The annual visit by the renowned MCC will take a different format this year. They will not only play games against island sides, but will also be involved in coaching youngsters.
Those players not involved in matches will be going into schools to give top-grade tuition.
On Wednesday, June 15 the MCC will play a young island XI and this will be followed by an informal dinner. The next day they will go up against King William’s College and the highlight comes on Friday with the match against the Isle of Man.
This will be held at Tromode and the visitors will be seeking revenge for their dramatic defeat last year. There will also be a new award for the Manx Player of the Match.
This year the prize will be two tickets for a Test match at Lords.
