It’s difficult to keep Cal Crutchlow out of the news.

One week after recording an impressive fourth place in round two of the MotoGP series at Austin, Texas, the Ramsey resident finally achieved his ambition of winning a local cycling race at Tosaby on Sunday.

The 27-year-old two-wheel ace, who hails from Coventry, broke away with three other riders in the mid-stages of the John Hamer Road Race.

The quartet was eventually whittled down to two, Crutchlow and Ellan Vannin/Appleby team-mate Ed Perry. They rode the final three laps in tandem, but a determined Crutchlow outgunned the big man in the final couple of miles to cross the finish line four seconds ahead.

Robin Garry, winner of the opening round of the Black Grace Cowley IoM Road Race series last month, was third.
