Team Sky’s Peter Kennaugh smashed Mark Cavendish’s 10-mile time trial record by a full half-minute at Ballamoar on Wednesday evening.

Kennaugh became the first local rider to go under 20 minutes (and therefore average 30mph) on home soil when he clocked an incredible 19min 38.982sec.

Cav clocked 20.08 in 2007 shortly after making his Tour de France debut for T-Mobile.

Kennaugh’s time put him 1m 36s clear of Ed Perry on the night.

Third-placed Jake Kelly, making his first appearance of the year in the island, got to within three seconds of Andrew Roche’s junior record of 21m 13s.

A full report and list of times will appear in Tuesday’s edition of the Isle of Man Examiner.
