The 10th annual Sleepwell Hotels Isle of Man Youth Tour takes place this weekend with a record entry of 311 riders, including 77 junior. Four will represent Team Isle of Man Microgaming, with a further 62 Manx youths under the Royal London 360 banner.
Friday evening’s prologue takes place on Douglas promenade and Onchan Head. Saturday’s road races are split, with the juniors competing over 11 laps of the tough Peel/Switchback course (103km). That afternoon, the youths will race over various distances round the Ellerslie course.
Juniors will race six laps of the Bride course (92.6km) on Sunday morning, while the youths will compete over various distances on Ramsey promenade in the afternoon.
The IoM Youth Tour is round four of both the National Youth Circuit and Junior Road Race Series. Jake Kelly will race at number one and is one of the favourites for the junior honours, along with fellow local Josh Knights who rides as part of Champion Systems-Maxgear-Base.
A Dutch team will be racing under Sleepwell Hotels-Viking Waterland, while others include Team Wales and Team Scotland. Steve Joughin is bringing the Biketreks race team. www.youthtour.co.uk
