Swift third in Spain
ONCHAN resident Ben Swift sprinted to an impressive third place finish in the second stage of this year’s Vuelta a Espana.
The British cyclist, team-mates with Manxmen Mark Cavendish and Peter Kennaugh at Team Sky, went into the 181.5km stage from Pamplona to Viana as favourite to claim victory.
The 24-year-old attacked early at the finish but John Degenkolb overtook him late on to claim his first Grand Tour stage win while Orica-GreenEDGE’s Allan Davis also managed to pip the Brit to the line.
The Vuelta continues with Monday’s 155.3km stage from Faustino to Eibar.
Cav and Kennaugh will both be in action for Team Sky in the Post Danmark Rundt which kicks off on Wednesday and lasts until Sunday.
