THE Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week battles through the inclement weather to produce yet another hypothetical XI of true wonderment this week.
Just three Canada Life Premier League matches survived the weekend’s downpour, providing Eric Clague’s player ratings panel with its fodder in the process.
Ramsey’s former island keeper Andy Perry edges out Michael’s Abdur Inceler and Old Boys’ Sam Holliday to complete a hat-trick of TotW appearances this season after impressing in the northerners’ 2-2 draw with St Mary’s at Springfield Road.
Also shining in that match was Saints skipper Martin King who was in typically resolute form at the heart of the St Mary’s defence.
Joining King in the middle of the TotW’s backline is Ramsey experienced centre-half John Roberts who netted the Ballacloan outfit’s late equalizer to claim a share of the points for his hard-working side.
Alongside Messrs Roberts and King, Old Boys defender Iain Ramsay makes his third outing of the season after doing well against Rushen in Colin Purvis’s side’s 0-2 triumph in the south.
Also winning on their travels at the weekend were Ayre, last season’s Division Two runners-up all but securing their top-flight status for the next campaign with a 0-3 at relegation threatened Michael. Helping the Tangerines to keep a clean sheet was United’s Mark Teare earning himself a first TotW call up of the term in the process.
Teare’s team-mate Shaun Kelly lands a midfield spot after another mature performance for Steven Easthope’s men. St Mary’s playmaker Brian Crellin joins Kelly in the middle third after a man of the match showing against Ramsey.
Anchoring the two aforementioned flair players are central midfield duo Kevin Pulman (Michael) and Robbie Ward (DHSOB).
Pulman was one of the Aces’ best performers as they slipped up at home to their rivals from the north, while Ward’s fine season continued with a busy performance and a well-taken goal against the reigning champions in Port Erin.
Up front island forward Josh Kelly lands a fifth TotW call-up of the campaign after impressing in the secondary striker role he was employed in on Saturday.
Alongside the Spaniard is reigning Division Two player of the year James Teare, the versatile Ayre man impressing with a goal against Michael.
Colin Coole lands the latest referee of the week honours after a solid showing during St Mary’s draw with Ramsey.
