THE Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week selectors had the luxury of a full set of Canada Life Premier League fixtures to choose its latest line-up from with six rearranged top-flight games taking place on Saturday.

Three of this week’s side make their seasonal debut in the nation’s favourite hypothetical XI after impressing Eric Clague’s watching player ratings panel at the weekend.

One of the first-timers is Laxey goalkeeper Paul Gerrard. The combination regular deputised admirably for injured island stopper Mark Blair on Saturday with a man of the match performance and a clean sheet as Steve Falconer’s side drew 0-0 with high-flying DHSOB at Blackberry Lane.

In front of Gerrard comes a back four that already has 17 TotW appearances between it this season.

Enjoying the lions’ share of them is St George’s Neil Brogan who earns his sixth TotW stripes of the campaign after an assured defensive performance in the title contenders’ 4-0 triumph over St Mary’s at Glencrutchery Road.

Slotting in alongside the tenacious Scotsman is clubmate and fellow island squad member Sean Quaye who was also in top form during Saturday’s battle of the Saints.

The TotW’s two full-back berths were hotly contested this week Corinthians’ skipper Darren Cain and Ayre youngster Christian Penswick ultimately getting the nod.

Cain and Penswick both showcased their talents in a 2-2 draw at Ballafletcher, the United man getting on the scoresheet in the process.

The talented Marc Kelly produced a solid shift in the Peel engine room alongside club stalwart Chris Cain in the Sunset City side’s 1-10 drubbing of rock bottom Douglas Royal.

Joining the western wonders in the midfield third are Rushen captain Ted Pepper and Ramsey flyer Matt Skillicorn. Pepper was pushed forward from his usual full-back berth on Saturday, but it seemed to work as the Spaniards bounced back from last week’s defeat at the hands of DHSOB with a 5-0 win over Michael.

Skillicorn was also an influential figure as the northerners maintained their good recent form with a 2-4 win over second-bottom Gymns in Tromode.

Also starring in that match was Skillicorn’s clubmate Jamie Moffatt (Ramsey) who netted twice during Saturday’s victory to take the former Michael man’s tally to 17 for the league season.

Moffatt is joined at the sharp end of the pitch by St George’s attacking midfielder Frank Jones who also found the back of the net against former club St Mary’s on Saturday.

Making it a hat-trick of referee of the week appearances this season is the charismatic Peter Lewis who shone in Geordies’ triumph over St Mary’s.
