The Isle of Man’s men’s national side return to action for the first time since June next weekend when they travel to Greater Manchester to play non-league outfits Hyde and Stalybridge Celtic.
Coach Steve Burns’s first match in charge since taking over the managerial reigns from Kevin Manning will see the Men take on Conference Premier side Hyde on Saturday, May 11 before Conference North club Stalybridge supply the opposition the following day.
Hyde, who count Everton old boys Phil Jevons and Scott Spencer among their number, will provide the island with its first outing since last summer’s FA International Shield in Gibraltar.
Hyde finished the season in 18th on their return to the Conference, while Stalybridge were mid-table in the tier below.
Both will provide tough tests for Burns’s remodelled squad that includes uncapped quartet Karl Clark, Chris Cannell, Matthew Woods and Mark Wolfenden.
The rest of the squad has a more familiar feel to it with the majority having guided the island to the FA Inter-League Cup final last term. All will be hoping to impress ahead of the start of the new Inter-League campaign in September.
Island squad Goalkeepers Grant Dawson (St George’s), Max Thomas (St Mary’s); Defenders Julian Ringham (St George’s), Karl Clark (St Mary’s), Sean Quaye (St George’s), Adam Cregeen (Rushen), Johnny Myers (St George’s), Chris Cannell (Corinthians); Midfielders Stephen Riding (Rushen), Marc Kelly (Peel), Dan Bell (Peel), Frank Jones (St George’s), Liam Cowin (St George’s), Mathew Woods (Peel), Chris Bass Jr (St George’s); Attackers Mark Wolfenden (Laxey), Ciaran McNulty (St George’s), Ashley Webster (Laxey), Calum Morrissey (St George’s) and Lee Gale (Peel).
