Castletown’s match with St George’s postponed
CASTLETOWN Football Club’s match with St George’s on the opening day of the 2012-13 Canada Life Premier League season has been postponed because of the weather.
Saturday’s fixture was due to see Grand Slam winners Geordies make the journey south to the Stadium to take on a Town side which many expect to be battling relegation this season.
However, the match was in serious doubt after it emerged several players have not yet paid last season’s subs, forcing the club’s committee to reportedly submit a request to the Isle of Man Football Association to call off both the first team’s and combination side’s fixtures on Saturday while the matter was sorted.
The combi’s match away at Glencrutchery Road had already been called off earlier but a decision on whether the Premier League contest will go ahead was to be made at a meeting this evening (Friday).
However, the weather has since come to the southerners’ rescue and the tie has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch following heavy rain.
The match will now take place next Wednesday, August 22 with a 6.30pm kick-off.
