Saturday’s round-up plus the Junior and Hospital Cup draws

ST John’s and Colby will contest the GH Corlett Woods Cup final on Good Friday after the pair advanced through today’s semi-finals.

Colby caused a mini-upset at Glen Road as they beat promotion contenders Union Mills 4-3 on penalties after the two sides had shared a 3-3 draw in the south.

Runaway Division Two leaders St John’s last-four encounter with Marown was more clear cut, the Saints keeping their treble hopes alive with a 6-1 win at Mullen-e-Cloie.

In the afternoon’s Canada Life Premier League matches, Gymns great escape gathered further momentum at Ayre. The Tromode outfit won 2-3 thanks to David Rees’s last-minute winner to move out of the top-flight relegation zone for the first time in a long time.

Replacing Kieron Iveagh’s men in the dreaded drop zone are Michael who lost 0-5 to in-form Ramsey at Balleira Road.

Castletown’s top-flight safety is by no means confirmed after the southerners lost 5-1 to a Lee Cowley inspired Laxey. The Miners’ attacker netted a hat-trick, joining Josh Thomas and Nigel Beattie on the scoresheet for Steve Falconer’s side.

At the top of the standings, Rushen exstinguished Peel’s faint championship hopes with a 2-3 win in the Old Firm derby at Douglas Road.

DHSOB remain leaders after they beat St Mary’s 1-2, but St George’s remain firmly on their shoulders after they beat Corinthians 5-0 at Glencrutchery Road.

In JCK Division Two, RYCOB took advantage of Union Mills’ Woods Cup involvement to move up to second with a 3-0 win over basement side Ronaldsway.

Pulrose boosted their Gold Cup hopes with a 2-1 win over Foxdale, while Douglas and District’s good recent run came to an end at the hands of Braddan. The Victoria Road side edging a nine-goal thriller 4-5.
