The Isle of Man Newspapers Team of the Week was spoilt for choice as to who occupied its four defensive berths after Saturday’s latest round of matches in the Canada Life Premier League.

In the end Peel duo Kerron Christian and Danny Lace along with St George’s skipper Sean Quaye and St John’s Johnny Holland got the nod having only conceded one goal between them at the weekend.

Western wonders Christian and Lace pick up their second TotW stripes of the fledgling top-flight campaign having impressed in the Sunset City side’s 4-0 win over RYCOB at Scooil Ree Gorree.

Quaye was also in fine fettle in the northern capital grabbing two goals and helping the reigning champions to a clean sheet in Geordies’ 2-0 triumph at Ramsey. Holland completes the back four after a man-of-the-match performance as the Johnners’ maintained their unbeaten start to the 2012-13 campaign after a 1-1 draw with Laxey.

An additional defender, Jamie Arneil, also makes the nation’s favourite hypothetical XI after impressing with the gloves as he deputised well for usual Ramsey keeper Kiril Velev against St George’s.

In the middle third of the pitch, Rushen pair Ciaran Brown and Harry Best are joined by Douglas High School Old Boys man Michael Hooper. Best bagged his first goal since a summer switch from Colby as the Spaniards continued their good start to the new term under manager Neil Curphey with a 4-2 win over Corinthians.

Brown’s performance also caught the eye of Eric Clague’s watching player ratings panel in the that match as did Hooper’s in Old Boys 4-1 win at promoted Michael.

Netting half of the Blackberry Lane outfit’s four-goal haul in the latter fixture was David Quirk. The speedster makes up a tasty-looking front with Andy Glover (St Mary’s) and Chris Bass Jr (St George’s).

Glover bagged a well-taken brace as his new club beat Union Mills 4-0, while Geordies’ talisman Bass Jr was a thorn in Ramsey’s side as the Glencrutchery Road team kept their place atop the early season standings.

Refereeing honours this week go to Scott Campion after he shone in the middle during Old Boys win at Michael.
