AYRE United edged closer to clinching JCK Division Two’s fourth and last Paul Henry Gold Cup spot on Wednesday evening when they drew 1-1 with Foxdale at Billy Goat Park.

The point leaves the northerners level on points with already finished Douglas Royal, but with one game left to play the Tangerines could overtake their Ballafletcher outfit if they get anything from that rearranged match.

In group one of the Cowell Cup, Laxey join group winners Corinthians in the semi-finals after the Miners beat Ayre 4-0 and nearest rivals Rushen lost 7-1 to Peel.

On target for the westerners were Dan Corkill (2), Rowan Richardson (2), Alex Holden (2) and Tom Woods, while Harvey Neale replied for the Spaniards who miss out on a last-four place on goal difference.

In the group’s other match Onchan and Ramsey drew 3-3.

In group two holders St Mary’s and Colby go through after the pair both picked up wins last night. The Saints beat RYCOB 2-1 in a repeat of last season’s final, goals from Darren Flanagan and Stuart Pacey cancelling out Graham Kennish’s strike for Youthie.

Colby were 4-1 victors at Braddan. Brandon Moore, Jordan Clarke, Danny Gardner and Fraser Veale were on target for the Moonlighters who miss out on top spot on goal difference.

Douglas and District finished their first Cowell Cup campaign with a draw against 10-man St George’s. An own goal gave Geordies the lead before Robbie Hay equalised for D and D.

Fellow Cowell Cup novices Ronaldsway ended their campaign with a 5-2 loss at the hands of Union Mills.
