LAXEY returned to the top of the Canada Life Premier League table thanks to a 3-0 victory over already-relegated Ayre United at St John’s on Wednesday evening.
Despite a resilient performance by the Tangerines in their final league game of the season, goals from Ashley Webster, Dave Corlett and Chris Brown were enough to seal the win and overtake St George’s at the league summit, although Geordies have several games in hand starting with tonight’s (Thursday’s) match at home to Rushen.
St Mary’s continued their recent fine run of form and kept their faint title hopes alive with a resounding 6-1 win over Gymns at Tromode. Golden boot contender Steven Priestnal netted a hat-trick for the Saints while there were also single strikes for Brian Crellin, Tom Weir and Dave Skillen.
Elsewhere, DHSOB moved back into the top four courtesy of their 3-0 win at Castletown. Callum Stewart led the way for the Blackberry Lane outfit with two goals, while Sean Gavin also got on the scoresheet at the Stadium.
In Canada Life Combination One, St Mary’s climbed up to second in the league behind champions DHSOB after overcoming St George’s 2-0 at Glencrutchery Road, Dean Spencer and Dave Priestnal getting on the scoresheet for the visitors.
