Laxey’s Harriet Pryke competed in the women’s 400m final at the Budapest Open EAP meeting in very hot and humid temperatures in Hungary on Saturday.
Despite the 30-degree heat, the Isle of Man Sport Aid recipient was able to maintain her form throughout the race, finishing strongly in second position, but in a relatively slow time of 55.08 seconds.
The race was won by New Zealand athlete Monica Williams who set off at a blistering pace but faded badly on the final straight to finish in 54.14 seconds. Third place went to Slovakian Sylvia Salgovicova in 56.15s.
Harriet is hoping for slighly cooler conditions in Manchester this weekend when she defends her North of England women’s 400m title on Saturday, as well as contesting the 200m on Sunday.
