Ellan Vannin are into the final of the ConIFA World Football Cup after they beat Arameans Suryoye 4-1 in Friday evening’s semi-final in Sweden.
Once again the Manx had to come from behind, the Arameans taking the lead after 10 minutes.
However, the Manx Tim Cahill, Frank Jones, soon restored parity to the tie before Jack McVey’s second-half header gave the islanders’ the lead.
Two goals in two minutes from St George’s duo Chris Bass Jr and Ciaran McNulty put Ellan Vannin in the driving seat and teed up Sunday afternoon’s midday showdown with the County of Nice.
The Manx beat the French region 4-2 when they met in the 12-team competition’s group stage early in the week. A repeat performance would cap a fairytale week for the Manx, who were 250-1 outsiders to win the cup at the competition’s onset!
