THE latest installment of the Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week sees no fewer than nine clubs represented in the hypothetical XI, with only two clubs having more than one player included in the line-up.

One such team is St John’s who contributed at both ends of the pitch for this week’s selection. Donning the gloves for a second time already this season is Saints goalkeeper Damyan Petkov who kept a clean sheet during his side’s victory over Castletown at Mullen e Cloie on Saturday.

Another player from the west of the island produced an excellent showing in the Canada Life Premier League at the weekend in the shape of Peel captain Rob Cottier who collected the man of the match honours during his side’s excellent 3-2 victory over title challengers St Mary’s at the Bowl.

Also lining up in the traditional flat back four is Dominic McGreevy who, despite finishing on the losing side in the same match, was in fine form for Sam Kenny’s men. Alongside him is Corinthians defender Chris Cannell after the centre-back produced an impressive showing for the Whites against reigning champions St George’s - having narrowly missed out on a place in last week’s TotW.

Completing the back four is Marown’s Nigel Shimmin, despite the former Peel player being on the receiving end of a red card late in the game at home to Union Mills. The powerful centre-back was the standout performer for the Crosby outfit during their heavy 6-1 defeat to fellow promoted side Mills and also managed to grab his team’s only goal in the process.

The other club to have two representatives in the latest TotW is St George’s who occupy two of the three midfield berths in the shape of Frank Jones and James McStay. Both were seemingly back to full fitness and produced dynamic displays in the middle third of the pitch during the aforementioned 3-0 win over Corinthians at Glencrutchery Road.

The final spot in the trio is taken up by Rushen’s Jack Saxon who was one of the star performers during the Spaniards 5-2 victory over Gymns in Tromode and was amongst the goalscorers.

Leading the line for the latest Team of the Week is a formidable-looking trio boasting no fewer than eight goals between them during Saturday’s matches, including two hat-tricks. Andy Glover cemented his place as one of the league’s most lethal marksmen when he claimed the match ball during St Johns’ aforementioned 5-0 victory over Castletown thanks to a well-taken hat-trick. As a result, Glover earns an impressive third TotW appearance of the season already, in only the fourth week of the campaign.

Also showing his finishing prowess in front of goal was Union Mills striker Steven Quine who put the Marown defence to the sword with a neat treble during his side’s 6-1 win at the Memorial Playing Fields to move the Mills up to the dizzy heights of seventh in the league.

Completing the line-up in the latest Team of the Week is DHSOB forward Callum Stewart whose two goals were instrumental in earning the Blackberry Lane outfit all three points from their tricky trip north to Ramsey.

Claiming the refereeing honours this week is John Lovelady who impressed in the middle during Gymns’ match with Rushen United in Tromode.
