THE island’s football fraternity is being given the opportunity to recognise and reward its best clubs and volunteers in the annual English FA’s McDonald’s Community Awards.
Nominations are now open in the eight categories – Outstanding Contribution; FA Community Club; FA Development Club; FA Charter Standard Club; Volunteer of the Year; Young Volunteer of the Year; Coach of the Year and FA Charter Standard League - that make up the prestigious awards.
Isle of Man FA development officer Lewis Qualtrough said: ‘We are delighted that the FA and McDonald’s have recognised these clubs and individuals with the Community Awards and believe this is a great opportunity for us to celebrate the dedication and commitment shown by clubs, coaches, players and volunteers across the island. Fingers crossed we get some finalist and national winners from the Isle of Man.’
Last year Laxey stalwart Peter Kinnish was put forward to the national shortlist in the Outstanding Contribution category, while everyone nominated in each category is put forward for a local award which will be presented at the IoMFA’s end-of-season awards evening.
Nominations close on March 18 and the national award winners, selected by a judging panel that includes Sir Geoff Hurst and Sir Trevor Brooking, will be announced at next season’s Community Shield at Wembley in August.
