DHSOB edged into the first round proper of the Ascot Hotel Junior Cup with a hard-fought victory over Laxey on Saturday afternoon.
Robbie Ward scored the winner for cup favourites Old Boys as the Blackberry Lane side saw off the spirited challenge of the Miners at the rearranged game at the Bowl.
Elsewhere in the preliminary round, Charlie Jackson was Rushen United’s hero as the Spaniards got the better of St Mary’s at Croit Lowey 1-0.
There was a pulsating game at Douglas Road where penalties were needed to separate Peel and Union Mills.
The sides shared four goals during the 90 minutes of normal time and there were no further goals in extra time, before the westerners eventually triumphed 4-2 in the shootout.
Elsewhere there were big wins for Corinthians 6-1 against Marown in a game switched to Ballafletcher, RYCOB 9-0 at Michael United and Braddan 6-0 at Pulrose United.
There were also 3-1 victories for St John’s and Colby over Combination Two leaders Douglas Royal and Governor’s Athletic respectively.
The games between Foxdale v Douglas Athletic and Ramsey v Malew were both postponed.
