Wins for DHSOB, Laxey, Rushen and St Mary’s in Cu-Plas FA Cup quarter-finals

CRAIG Stewart’s contentious second-half penalty gave DHSOB a 2-1 win over grand slam chasing St George’s in the Cu-Plas FA Cup quarter-finals this afternoon.

Gary Quirk edged the hosts in front after just four minutes in the tie at Blackberry Lane before Geordies’ talisman Calum Morrissey’s wonder strike brought the two sides level at the break.

Stewart then stepped up to net from the spot and set-up a semi-final tie with Laxey at the end of the month.

The Miners negotiated a tricky encounter with second division leaders St John’s 1-2 out west. After a goal less first period Danny Rose and Darren Hudgeon struck to hand their side a two-goal lead. United player-manager Nick Hurt hit four minutes from time to set-up a grandstand finish, but couldn’t add a second as the Saints held on to secure their final four place.

Elsewhere, last season’s beaten finalists Rushen triumphed 1-6 at second tier RYCOB, while St Mary’s beat fellow top-flight team Castletown 7-0 at Springfield Road,
