Ballafletcher outfit defeat Castletown 11-1

FOUR-TIME winners of the Warehouse Fitness-sponsored Floodlit Cup Douglas Royal kicked off this season’s competition with an 11-1 win against Castletown at the Bowl on Sunday.

Leading 4-0 at the break at break, Leanne Quayle (4), Donna Shimmin (3), Bekkie Colquitt, Sarah Breen, Siobhann Lockwood and Rebecca Cole netted for the Whites - the southern consolation came via a Kira Buchan effort.

In the remaining Group A match, Gymnasium defeated Rushen 4-0. Leading 2-0 at the break, Sammie MacDonald, Lauren Millar, Mia Brigantova and Alannah Hall netted for the Tromode outfit.

In the day’s only Women’s League match played at the weekend, Colby defeated Laxey 15-2. Fay Holland (4), Natalie Swales (3), Chloe Swales (3), Tracy Wilson (2), Courtney Goldsmith (2) and Laura Beggs scored for the southerners, the Miners’ reply came in the form of a Rhiannon Brew brace.
