THREE is the magic number for five of this week’s Isle of Man Newspapers’ Team of the Week with nearly half of the latest line-up making their third TotW appearance of the campaign.

Two of the famous five slot into the hypothetical XI’s back four – Castletown’s Karl Clark and St George’s Johnny Myers claiming their third stripes of the season.

Clark was Town’s stand-out performer as they were beaten 1-3 at home by St Mary’s, while Myers had a hand in three of Geordies five goals as Chris Bass Sr’s side beat top-flight title rivals DHSOB 5-2 at Glencrutchery Road.

Joining Clark and Myers in the TotW’s defence are Rushen’s Michael Baker and St George’s James McStay.

Centre-back Baker was man of the match as the Spaniards claimed the latest Old Firm honours with a 0-4 triumph at Douglas Road. McStay produced a solid shift at right back for Geordies as he helped to shackle the pacey Old Boys’ attack.

Behind the sturdy looking rearguard is new Rushen goalkeeper Christian Steriopulos. The former Colby shot-stopper has impressed since joining his new club a couple of weeks ago and kept a clean sheet as the Spaniards defeated Peel.

In midfield there are two more with three TotW appearances to their name this season. Peel’s in-form talisman Danny Bell produced another top showing for the westerners, while Youthie attacking midfielder Shaun Kelly was instrumental in helping RYCOB beat his former club Ayre 4-1.

Kelly’s Youthie team-mate Daniel Tate joins him in the TotW ranks after impressing down the right flank during the northern derby at Scooil Ree Gorree.

Completing the midfield ranks is St Mary’s Tom Weir whose performance caught the eye of Eric Clague’s watching Player Ratings panel during the Saints’ 1-3 triumph at Town.

In attack suitably St George’s hat-trick man Calum Morrissey makes his third TotW outing of the season after a man of the match showing against Old Boys.

Providing further firepower to the team is Rushen’s mercurial frontman Josh Kelly who netted twice as the southerners triumphed in the Sunset City.

Taking charge of the coveted Referee of the Week whistle this time out is Peter Beighton. The Isle of Man Referees’ Society vice-president impressed in the middle during St Mary’s win at Castletown.
