Under-18 footballers take on Liverpool CFA

Manx travel to Merseyside this weekend as warm-up for next month’s FA County Youth Cup tie

THE Isle of Man’s under-18 footballers are back in action this Saturday as they warm-up for next month’s FA County Youth Cup first round tie with Staffordshire.

The Manx travel to Merseyside to take on Liverpool County FA’s equivalent age group in a friendly at Walton Avenue ahead of November 10’s cup match with Staffs at the Bowl.

Speaking prior to the trip, island coach Steve Burns said: ‘This is the first time we’ve had the luxury of a warm up game in this competition and it will be a good yardstick to see where the players are at in relation to county standard.

‘It will also enable us as coaches to tweak our practices and adapt suitable challenges to individuals and the group. It’s great that in many ways the result of this game doesn’t really matter - this is a development opportunity ahead of the real competition next month.’
