Penalty shoot-out victory sees Manx retain Appleby sponsored trophy in Isle of Wight
THE Isle of Man women’s team celebrated more success at the weekend by retaining the Appleby-sponsored Inter-Island tournament.
The bi-annual triangular competition also involved teams from Jersey and the Isle of Wight, the latter hosting the event.
The Manx won their opening match 2-0 against Jersey, Eleanor Gawne netting a brace.
The island’s second and final match against the hosts Isle of Wight finished 1-1 with Bekkie Colquitt scoring a wonder goal for the Manx. It required a penalty shoot-out to determine the outcome, reaching sudden death, it was player-manager Sammie MacDonald who slotted in the decisive spot-kick to send the Manx into raptures, winning 6-5.
It was success at the first time of asking for the side’s new management regime of Chris Langford and player-manager Sammie MacDonald who took over after previous manager Keith Lunt stood down last year.
