Round-up of the opening weekend’s action

THE 13th MBL Women’s League kicked-off on Sunday.

Reformed Rushen lost their opening match to Colby 1-3 at Croit Lowey. Goal-less at half-time, Hannah Leece (2) and Laura Beggs netted for the Glen Road outfit. Rushen scored via a Holly Quillin penalty.

Gymnasium registered the biggest win of the day, defeating DHSOB 12-3. Winning 6-0 at half-time Eleanor Gawne (5), Mia Brigantova (2), new signing Alannah Hall (2), Gill Christian, Rachel Beckley and Elaine Wiseman netted for the Tromode club. The Blackberry Lane’s outfit response came via a Rachel Grant brace and a Kelly Watterson effort.

Champions Corinthians got off to a winning start defending their title by defeating Castletown 8-0. Clocking up a 5-0 interval lead, Alivine McGregor (2), Jade Burden (2), Anna Dillon, Helen Thomas, Megan Loughran and an own goal found the net for the Whites.

Cup winners Douglas Royal managed to scrape a 3-2 win over Peel. With the scores 1-1 at half-time, Donna Shimmin, Becci Pate and an own goal were on target for the Ballafletcher outfit, Ellen Cleator and Maxine Smalley replied for the westerners.

The match involving Ramsey and Laxey was cancelled due to Miners’ withdrawal from the league.
