MANX Telecom Vikings tackle Newcastle on Sunday in the in the quarter-finals of English Hockey Association Women’s Vase competition.

Like the Manx side’s tie in the previous round with Stratford, the game will take place at Vikings’ ‘home’ venue of Liverpool College.

After a very tough match against Stratford, Vikings should take some momentum into this game against the Northumberland A Division outfit.

However, the onset of the Manx mixed season means the Wi-Manx Women’s Premier Division champions are split between the club’s A and B teams and this maybe a hinderance. Hopefully, the additional training the side has done should counteract this.

Newcastle are back in this competition after a season out because of promotion into the North of England Division Two East.

The last time the Geordies were in the Vase they went out 4-0 at the quarter-final stage to East Grinstead who Vikings lost 2-1 to last year’s semi-final. A formidable league record of 11 wins, one draw and a single defeat means they will prove tough opponents for the islanders.

Vikings squad: Sarah Pressley GK, Jen Dougal, Hayley Crowe, Kirsty Bowley, Kitty Henry, Eilis Kerford, Suzanne Slater, Louise Slater, Zoe Carney, Sarah Breen, Danielle Coombes, Kim Carney (c), Katie Errock. Team managers Jan Carney and Debbie Shimmin
