Cristen Marritt and Kim Clague’s women’s doubles Commonwealth Games adventure came to an end at the last-16 stage on Thursday evening despite a valiant effort against gold medal favourites Singapore.

The Manx badminton pair had caused something of an upset 24 hours earlier when they defeated Jamaica in the last-32. Their confidence boosted as a result, they produced some tremendous rallies as they went down 21-13, 21-11 against the number one seeds who now advance to Friday’s quarter-finals.
