Creevy secures his spot in GB team

MANX shooter Harry Creevy returned to the home of British Smallbore Shooting at Bisley, Surrey, last weekend to start his 2013 campaign for inclusion in the 300-metre Great Britain squad.

After a Saturday morning of practice and training, Creevy ventured onto the range during the afternoon to compete in a two-match qualification event and recorded an excellent 590 x 600.

This result brought a satisfying wry smile to the face of the Manxman.

Sunday proved to be even more successful as Creevy bettered his previous day’s result by four points, recording a terrific 594 x 600 and guaranteeing his position in the GB squad for 2013.

This international qualification score ensures his inclusion in all of the European Cup events and the European Championship Series alongside Simon Aldhouse and well-known regular Easter Shoot competitor, Tony Lincoln.

l THE monthly handicap match at St John’s took place recently with just eight members managing to take to the firing point.

Maybe the festivities of the previous evening’s presentation at the Colby Glen Hotel claimed some victims.

The weather conditions, although extremely bright for some shooters, could not have been much better in general, as the wind was non-existent.

Winner on the day was Derek Kermode whose result must be one of his best of the year, a 590-plus was lost during the final series with a 96.

He was closely followed by the ever-improving, Tony Kneale and Barry Jones.

Just two full houses (100s) were recorded during the match, one by winner Kermode and the other by Tom Lord, both being shot early in the match before the light altered somewhat.

Lord’s final two series of 90 and 92 must have been a disappointment for the club chairman as his recent results have been most encouraging,
