Danny leading GB charge in ISDE
DANNY McCanney continued to lead the Junior category of the International Six Days Enduro as the event reached half-distance in Germany on Wednesday evening.
He was also the highest place British rider overall in 21st place.
In muddy conditions on Monday it was his 18-year-old sibling Jamie McCanney who made a stunning getaway on the 125 Husaberg near the front of the 500-strong field, finishing highest of the British riders in 35th place, 12th in E1 out of 76 starters.
Riding in place of the injured David Knight, the youngster headed all of the other Brits in both the Trophy and Junior teams.
Brother Danny was second quickest of the Brits, 14sec down on Jamie and 12th out of 50 in the E3 class on his 300 Gas Gas.
Completing the full set, Alex Rockwell was third best Brit and 17th overall out of 90 in E2 on his 250 Husaberg.
Team-wise, the GB squad containing both Danny and Rocky moved to the top of the standings in the Junior Trophy section on Tuesday after day one leaders Italy lost two of their riders, but France were coming back strong after a poor start.
At the end of Wednesday’s longer run, Danny McCanney was holding onto a fine 21st place overall, seventh in E3, with Rockwell 41st (16th E2) and Jamie McCanney 43rd (14th E1).
Despite being the youngest of the talented Manx trio, Jamie is riding in the main Trophy team which was eighth overall after two days in a contest already dominated by the super-strong outfit representing France.
The Southern MCC team was 51st overall after day one in the club team contest and 50th on Tuesday.
Robbie Turner was the highest placed individually on Monday, but his father Mike took over the reins on Tuesday. Regaby’s Robert Quayle, an uncle to former ISDE winner David Knight, is the third member of the trio.
The event, described as the Olympics of motorcycling, continues until Saturday. The 87th edition of the ISDE is taking place in the Saxony area of eastern Germany, with the event HQ based on the Sachsenring MotoGP and F1 circuit.
