DRAG KINGS GATHER
EUROPE'S most phenomenal state-of-the-art, jet-powered vehicle is coming to the Isle of Man this weekend.
The Firestorm Pontiac Jet Funny Car is being brought over for the first time by the organisers of the Bushy's Drag Racing event at Jurby airfield on Saturday and Sunday.
The car will be displayed on Douglas promenade tomorrow, Friday, before being taken to Jurby.
When the lights go green and the driver Roger Goring hits the throttle, Firestorm will out-accelerate even the space shuttle. Roger will experience around 4G as the car rockets down the dragstrip.
Before take-off, the afterburner system creates a spectacular 30-foot flame engulfing huge clouds of white vapour, with sonic re-heat explosions, more spectacular than the launch of a space rocket.
Roger has developed a reputation as a showman, and has perfected the art of making jet-powered cars dance on the start-line. He choreographs the spectacular warm-up procedure as the Jet Car engine is slowly and progressively brought up to full working temperature while he goes through the pre-flight power checks, re-heat acceleration and throttle slam tests.
Firestorm appears at many different events around the UK and Europe. There will be one Jet Funny Car display on Saturday afternoon and two on Sunday -surely something not to be missed!
Tickets can be purchased on the gate at Jurby for just 3.
Scrutineering for the drag racing begins at 9.30 on Saturday and Sunday, with racing both days from approximately 10.30am until 5pm. Qualifying on the quarter-mile strip takes place over both days with the finals on Sunday afternoon.
