End-of-season finale comp for Peel women

Have your say

THE final women’s competition of the season took place recently at Peel Golf Club with the Judith Carr three-ball Am-Am.

This annual event is very popular with more than 20 teams entering and representatives from nearly all of the clubs in the island.

After all the awful weather, in recent weeks Carr must have been delighted and relieved when the day dawned bright and windless.

There were prizes won by S. Williams and S. Wilshaw for nearest-the-pin while claiming the best front nine was the team of M. Gardner, H. Gyselynck and H. Beckett with 39 points and the best back nine was won by M. Van Lier, A. Webster and J. Gibney with 37.

In fifth place overall was the team of G. Tuck, T. Lambert and L. Brady with C. Cowell. J. Perry and M. Knight in fourth with 72 points. Third was claimed by J. Hamilton-Turner, C. Travers and M. Manuja on 74 while the runners-up were P. Pell-Hiley, C. Short and R. Barthelemy who scored 77.

However, winning on a countback after also carding 77 were the team of B. Redford, M. Cubbon and E. Davies.

After the game players went into the clubhouse for lunch and a wonderful array of cakes, including Carr’s famous meringues which are always first to go!

It was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends from other clubs and we look forward to playing with them again next year.
