ENTRIES are now open for the 2012 World Tin Bath Championship in Castletown harbour.
Taking place on Saturday, July 7 from 2.30pm, this will be the 41st edition of the ever-popular event, organised by the Castletown Ale Drinkers’ Society.
The event attracts up to 100 competitors from around the world and always draws a huge crowd around the harbour.
The afternoon’s events include the popular snake races, the birdman competition for human-powered flight and culminates in the world tin bath championship races for men and women, with trophies also available for best-dressed bath and for the first competitor to sink.
Entries are also open for the snake races, but participation is limited to a maximum of 24 teams.
Participants must be over 16 years old and able to swim at least 50 yards unaided. The organisers have spare tin baths, donated by PokerStars, which can be borrowed by competitors.
Entry forms and rules can be downloaded from www.castletown.org.im, from Dave Collister by email email@example.com or by phone on 823996, 825252 or 341852.
