RAMSEY resident Cal Crutchlow clinched the Rookie of the Year title with a career best MotoGP result in Valencia on Sunday.
The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 ended the 2011 MotoGP World Championship in fantastic fashion with a fourth place finish in what was a dramatic race.
Starting from 11th on the grid, Crutchlow immediately found himself elevated into the top-five when he avoided a four-rider collision at the first corner in damp conditions.
The 30-lapper continued in unpredictable conditions, the lone British rider locked in an exciting and tense battle with Rookie of the Year rival Karel Abraham.
A single point split the pair going into the race and they were barely a second apart for the entire distance, exchanging places several times and getting ever more tense as conditions deteriorated in the closing laps.
Crutchlow took fourth place from Dani Pedrosa on the final lap while Abraham crashed out at turn 11.
Crutchlow’s result was the highest finish by a British rider in the 800cc era of the MotoGP series.
