Charlie Pass wins half-marathon

ED GUMBLEY led a local 1-2-3-4 in yesterday’s SalClear Marathon, clocking a more than decent time of 2hr 45min 08sec in the blustery conditions.

He ran the entire race alone to win by the best part of 10 minutes from Cronk-y-Berry School headmaster Rob Sellors, with Murray Lambden third and fellow Manx Harrier Nigel Armstrong fourth.

The women’s title went to Australian Karen Mickle in a time of 3:41.09. Based in Manchester, she had been looking good for a PB sub-3:35.50 performance at the 19-mile mark, but suffered into the wind. This was her seventh marathon of the year in which she hopes to complete an average of one each month. The leading local was once again Elizabeth McGowan, in 30th place.

Wesham Road Runners Charlie Pass took the honours in the SalClear half-marathon with Mike Garrett leading local in second. Wirral AC’s Mark Hulmston completed the top three beating Northern AC’s Kevin Deakes into fourth.
