Tom Harris led the way in the Grant Thornton-sponsored Isle of Man Close Amateur Golf Championships qualifying round which was contested at Castletown Golf Links on Saturday.

The returning Maryland College graduate was in superb form as he covered the course in only 68 blows to put himself well and truly at the top of the pile.

With a steady second round of 74, Tom not only won the Graeme Cairns Trophy on 142 for the best performance by someone 21 years of age and under, but also claimed the William Woods Cup being the leading qualifier, a clear two shots clear of Mark Sutton and Daryl Callister, both of whom were 144 for the 36 holes.

The draw for the match play stages, to be played on Tuesday evening starting at 4.30pm at 10-minute intervals, is as follows:

Kevin Moore v Jon Corke

Peter Glover v Donald Beggs

Andrew Challenor v Stephen Skillicorn

Robert Noon v Mark Sutton

Daryl Callister v Godfrey Kelly

Tom Gandy v Paul Lowey

Alex McCauley v Steven Boyd

Michael Curphey v Tom Harris
