OTHER than some light early frost, last weekend could not have been better for members of Peel Golf Club.
No wind and mild temperatures added to excellent course conditions which produced the perfect opportunity for low scoring. The format was a two-from-four Am-Am off three-quarter handicap with turkeys for the winners. The competition was played over Saturday and Sunday.
With an excellent 89 points John McChesney, Jim Condra, Alan Davidson and Neville Shimmin were third while Godfrey Kelly, Ray Hughes, Brian Mellor and Paddy Whelan took second on countback also with 89.
However, the winners with 90 were the Irish Aces - Martin Murray, Jim McDonnell, Keiron Conroy and Mick McCarthy. All four players contributed.
This Saturday there will be more turkeys on offer in a greensome. This is the day after the men’s dinner so the scoring might be a bit higher than usual for some of us!
