Island hosts British Youth championship

THE island plays host to rounds three and four of the Luscombe Suzuki Leeds British ACU Solo Youth A and B Trials Championship this weekend at Scarlett Point, near Castletown.

Organised by Isle of Man Youth Trials Club, the Franklin’s Trophy Trial has received a good entry of 40 youth riders, consisting of 26 B class and 14 A class competitors, most of them travelling to the island from the UK.

Each day will be made up of three laps of 12 sections. Saturday will be on the rugged volcanic coastline to the Castletown side, while Sunday will be farther south towards Pooil Vaaish.

Pick of the bunch in the A class is Jack Price, 15, currently leading the championship with two wins in the opening two rounds. He will be hoping to extend his lead over closest challengers Iwan Roberts, Brad Bullock and Luke Walker.

Dan Peace is currently in control of the B class championship. He holds a five-point lead over Tom Hooper, who in turn is holding a slender four-point lead over Thomas Minta in third. Billy Bolt took the win in round two and currently sits fifth in the standings.

A handful of local riders will be taking part, trying their best to gain some British championship points on home soil. Oliver Lace is flying the flag in the A class while Aaron Peniata, Ashley Gardner Jr, James Everitt and Juan Lace will be making their British championship debuts in the B class.

l The action starts at 10am on both days and parking will be available within the start field which is accessible from Queen Street, signposted from Castletown Square. Scrutineering and signing on will begin at 8.30am.

l Members of Isle of Man Youth Trials Club conducted a beach clean exercise last weekend in preparation for the two-day event, clearing a skipload of driftwood, plastic bottles and other debris from the Scarlett area.

l Observers are required for the British Youth Trials event this weekend at Scarlett. If anyone is free for either/both days contact Andy Birchall by email - andybirchall@manx.net
