Emma Harris, Shirley Glover, Cath Preston and Christina Skelly through to semis

WHILE the men battled in the wind and rain at the Open in Kent, the ladies in the IoM enjoyed sunshine and a light balmy summer breeze during Thursday evening’s quarter-finals of the Appleby Ladies Golf Association Championship at Douglas.

The four matches produced some fine golf and nail-biting finishes. The results are:

Defending champion 15-year-old Emma Harris (Peel) beat Heather McKenna (PSM) 4 and 3.

Shirley Glover (PSM) bt Jane Gaines (Ramsey) 2 up in a thrilling finish at the 18th when Gaines drove her ball out of bounds.

Catherine Preston (PSM) bt the talented 11-year-old Ana Dawson (Peel) 5 and 3 in a hard-fought match.

Christina Skelly (Peel) bt Jasmine Heginbotham (Rowany) 6 and 5.

The semi-final matches between Emma Harris and Shirley Glover and Cath Preston and Christina Skelly will take place tonight, Friday at 5pm at the Pulrose venue. These promise to be two exciting matches.
