Onchan’s Nigel Armstrong won the newly renamed Mountain Ultra in supreme style on Saturday.
Over a slightly elongated course, the 45-year-old dentist reeled off the miles as if he was pulling teeth to win the former Manx Mountain Marathon by a wide margin of almost 25 minutes from Ian Gale.
In a shock result, local runners dominated the top three with hotly fancied pre-race favourite Paul Thompson well out of the frame in seventh place.
Northern AC’s Judith Quane also produced a determined run to win the women’s race in a fine eighth place overall.
