As ever there is quite a busy and mixed programme of sporting events over the festive period.

A large entry of 55 pairs has been received for the annual Boxing Day motorcycle enduro at Ballagarraghyn, Jurby. The Ramsey MCC event will start at 11.30am and continue for three hours.

There is a pairs trial at West Kimmeragh, Bride on Sunday, December 29 from 1pm, while cycling’s annual Bikestyle Hamper road race takes place the same day at Jurby from 10am. Enter on the day.

A total of 17 teams will run on a handicap basis, with the full-distance of around 20 miles shared out between each team’s four members. The team estimated to be the slowest will start first at 9.30am.

The first sporting event of 2014 will be the Slieau Whallian Fell Race on New Year’s Day, starting from St John’s FC football pitch at 2pm. Last year, 176 runners took part.
