Gubay Scholarship recipient Alex Price has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Youth European Pentathlon Championships which are being held in Dzronkow, Poland from August 16-19.
His selection has been as a result of his performances in the two Pentathlon GB national youth selection competitions that have been held this year.
The second competition was held at the Modern Pentathlon Academy in Hartpury on May 5-6. The Youth B (15-16 years) competition involved swimming and a 2km combined event (run/shoot).
A strong field of competitors had entered this event and it was always going to be a tough competition as the results would help to decide the GB team for the European champs.
The competition started at 6.45am on Saturday morning and Alex produced a good swim which placed him in sixth position.
The combined event was held on Sunday morning but, because of the recent flooding in the area, it was contested over a mixed terrain course with indoor laser shooting - quite different to the conditions of the first competition he competed in.
Alex‘s strong shooting, together with a fast run meant, that he won the combined event and placed third in this competition.
Following the selection competitions, Pentathlon GB have produced their 2012 ranking list and Alex is now ranked third in Great Britain for the 15-16 year old boys.
The Onchan pentathlete will now attend a series of training camps at Hartpury with the national coaches to prepare for the European Championships in the summer.
Alex would like to thank his coaches at Douglas Swimming Club, Isle of Man Swimming, Manx Harriers, Laxey Rifle Club, Cavaliers Fencing, Salle Kiss Fencing, Isle of Man Sport Aid and Isle of Man Steam Packet for their help and support.
