Majority of team Isle of Man start bids for glory in CYG today
AFTER Thursday evening’s glittering opening ceremony at the Bowl, it’s down to business for team Isle of Man in the Commonwealth Youth Games today, Friday.
Although the boxing competition started yesterday a bye means the island’s sole representative Eddie Rennie begins his light welterweight campaign this afternoon at the Villa Marina against Australia’s Daniel Lewis in the competition’s quarter-final stage.
The island’s badminton and gymnastics teams also being their respective campaigns today, the latter in the men’s and women’s artistic team events at the Ellan Vannin Gymnastic Centre and Manx Gymnastic Centre of Excellence.
Also making their Games’ bow are the island’s swimmers with the first heats this morning at the NSC pool.
Rounding off the day one for team Isle of Man is discus thrower Andrea De Bruin, who is in action at the NSC track at 5.40pm, and the men’s cycling team tackle Douglas prom in the time trial at 6.45pm.
