SLIGHTLY later than usual in the rugby calendar, the BSM Manx Plate final between Vagabonds B and Ramsey B takes place at Port-e-Chee this Saturday.
The final was delayed when the semi between Ramsey and Castletown was tied and needed a replay to settle it.
Ramsey won that in dramatic style at Mooragh Park and earned themselves a shot at some silverware despite a slow start to their season in the Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield.
Vagas by comparison had a fairly straightforward win over Emerging Nomads in the other semi and have been kicking their heels for a few weeks waiting for the replay to find out who they would meet.
These two have met twice this season in the Manx Shield competition with Vagas winning 15-11 and 33-19 respectively. This suggests they must start as favourites, but Ramsey B have improved steadily since the start of the season and have strung together a little winning streak since Christmas.
The key for Vagas will be their pack. In the crunch Shield game against Douglas B, Vagas failed to win enough ball through their forwards which allowed the pacey Douglas backs to run the game.
Ramsey do have some speed in their backline through Dan Bonwick and Ali Trace, but they’ll need parity up front to secure the ball that they need for their creative players.
The form book suggests a Vagas win but in cup rugby the important thing is to be able to do it on the day and Ramsey may just rise to the occasion.
