Rachel Glover and Lara Ward both competed in the women’s 50m rifle prone final at the Commonwealth Games on Monday afternoon.
Situated at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre in Carnoustie, coastal winds made the conditions tricky at the temporary facility and this was evident in the scores posted across numerous competitions at the venue.
York-based Glover shot consistently and matched England’s Sharon Lee - who won silver at the Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010 - for most of the event, eventually finishing with a score of 608.5 in 17th place.
And just behind her was Ward who, despite stuttering slightly in her third round of 10 shots, bounced back impressively with a score of 102.9 in her next series. That set her up nicely for an improved second-half performance and she eventually finished on 606.1 in 19th.
Earlier in the day, Harry Creevy - competing in his eighth and final Games - and debutant Ben Kelly competed in the men’s 50m prone qualifying round and finished in 16th and 26th respectively.
Also competing at the satellite venue on the day were Neil Parsons and James Bradley in the first round of the men’s trap qualifiers and the duo were only seperated by a single shot in 16th and 17th positions.
