Wasps legends to visit next month

THE Wasps Legends rugby team will be coming to the island to play a match against an Isle of Man Select XV next month.

In conjunction with Wooden Spoon Isle of Man, the side will visit the island from Friday, September 7 until Sunday, September 9 and will feature many British Lions and international players such as Andy Gomarsall, Damian Cronin, Fraser Waters, Shane Roiser, Andy Reed and Serge Betsen.

On the Friday evening there will be a black tie dinner at the Palace Hotel, Douglas where the speakers will be Roger Uttley, Gomarsall and Peter Scrivener. The Legends will be attending the dinner and there will be one on each of the tables.

Saturday morning at the National Sports Centre there will be the chance for mini/junior rugby players to attend a training and coaching session run by the players while in the afternoon, at the same venue. an Island Ladies XV will play a Wasps Ladies side also featuring several international players. The Wasps Legends XV will then play against the Isle of Man Select XV and there will be ample chance for people to meet the Legends and have pictures taken and obtain autographs.

Admission to the NSC for the day will be by purchase of a programme which will include a raffle to be drawn at the end of the match. The whole day is planned to be a fun day out for all the family with all funds raised throughout the weekend going towards Wooden Spoon Isle of Man. There will be fun events and stalls, food and drink outlets running throughout the day.

Wooden Spoon is a rugby-based charity which organises fundraising initiatives to raise money to improve the quality and prospect of life for children and young people who are disadvantaged physically, mentally or socially. All funds raised in the Isle of Man stay in the island.
