Head-to-head at San Marino
CAL Crutchlow and Jonathan Rea go head-to-head for rival manufacturers in this Sunday’s San Marino GP.
Crutchlow, who was cycle training with Mark Cavendish last week, will be bidding for back-to-back podiums on the Tech 3 Monster Yamaha, while Rea will make his MotoGP debut on the factory HRC Honda as stand-in for the injured Casey Stoner.
The young Ulsterman lost ground in the Superbike World Championship last weekend at Nurburgring in Germany, where he came away with a single fourth place. Two rounds of that series remain.
l Ryan Kneen continued his impressive return to road racing with a fourth-place finish in the 650 Supertwin race and ninth in the 600cc event at the Killalane meeting in Ireland on Sunday. Making his course debut, the 23-year-old also rode to ninth in the open race riding for Billy McKinstry.
Brothers Michael and William Dunlop dominated the meeting, Michael taking victories in the Open and Grand Final events while William was first across the line in the Supersport 600, 250cc and 125cc races. KMR Kawasaki’s Jamie Hamilton won the Supertwin.
l TT regular John Burrows announced his retirement from the sport at the meeting. He was a close friend of Trevor Ferguson who died in the MGP.
l John McGuinness and Cameron Donald led the Honda TT Legends team to a strong fifth place finish at the final round of the World Endurance Championship at Le Mans, finishing fourth overall in the series.
