Rea finishes WSBK season on a high in Magny-Cours

CASTLETOWN’S resident Ulsterman Johnathan Rea brought his 2012 World Superbike campaign to a close with a fine second place in Sunday’s dramatic championship ending French round at Magny-Cours.

Rea, who in recent weeks has deputised admirably for the injured Casey Stoner in MotoGP, brought his works Honda home just 1.354 seconds behind British race winner Tom Sykes (Kawasaki).

The latter would miss out on the overall series title by just half a point to Max Biaggi who recovered from a spill in a wet race one to finish fifth in the second.

Rea also fell foul of the damp conditions in the day’s first contest trailing in 13th in a race won by Sylvain Guintoli (PATA Racing Team Ducati).

Rea’s second-race performance, however, was enough to ensure he held on to fifth overall in championship standings.
