Resident Australian Dwight Beare died after crashing on lap one of the Sidecar TT near Rhencullen on Saturday.

The race was immediately red flagged.

His passenger, fellow local Benjamin Binns, was flown to Noble’s Hospital where his condition is said to be stable with a fractured ankle.

Beare, 27, made his TT debut in 2014 with his father Noel as passenger. They achieved a 12th place in race two. The pair were 17th in the first race last year.

Originally from Melbourne, Beare moved to the island 18 months ago and was a resident of Onchan. He and Binns had been competing regularly together at Jurby.

The latter finished runner-up in race two last year with Dave Molyneux when they established a lap record.
