Michael Sweeney won a dramatic Junior Manx Grand Prix on Wednesday afternoon, as race-long leader James Cowton’s Honda ran out of fuel at the Nook on the last lap.
Cowton had a healthy 16 second lead at Cronk-ny-Mona having dominated the race, but coasted to a stop with less than one mile of the four-lap contest left.
Yamaha-mounted Sweeney, who had been second throughout, took advantage to win by 40 seconds from Michael Russell and Andy Lawson, the latter pipping Colin Stephenson to the third podium place by four seconds.
Douglas’ Paul Smyth was first Manxman home in 11th.
The Manx Grand Prix programme comes to a close on Friday with the Supertwin/Lightweight MGP at 10.15am and Senior at 1.15pm.
