Comedy actor Hugh Dennis has been announced as the compere for this year’s Isle of Man Newspapers Awards for Excellence.
Hugh is the star of the BBC’s brilliant, semi-improvised sitcom, Outnumbered, in which he plays comprehensive schoolteacher Peter Brockman, struggling to cope with family life.
The series has turned Dennis into one of the country’s best-loved performers but he is also well known for his stand-up comedy routines on Mock the Week and for acting as a guest host on Have I Got News for You?
Radio 4 listeners will also know him from his many appearances on shows such as Just a Minute and The Now Show.
Hugh began his career working with Steve Punt: the comedy partnership included more than 10 years on the radio show, Punt and Dennis. Hugh is also an impressionist and has voiced characters for Spitting Image.
Last year, Hugh was the subject of the BBC1 programme Who Do You Think You Are? in which he discovered more about his two grandfathers and their service in the Great War.
Hugh lives in Sussex with his wife Kate and their two children.
This year’s Awards night takes place on November 21 at the Villa and will be screened live via the web to a worldwide audience.
